Who Are You Lord?

And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Acts 9:5 ESV.

who 1

Which Jesus are you familiar with?

Do you know the gregarious, celebrating Jesus who was accused by the religious leaders as a wine bibber and glutton? Or do you recognize the weeping Jesus who cried prior to resurrecting Lazarus? Or maybe the healing Jesus who gave sight to the blind?

Then what about the beaten Jesus with bleeding cuts and bruises prior to his crucifixion? The hungry Jesus who fasted for 40 days prior to his confrontation with Satan? The popular Jesus who drew crowds of thousands to hear what he had to say? Or the controversial Jesus who questioned the religious teachings of his day?

Maybe you are familiar with the runaway Jesus who left his family at the age of twelve for three days discussing Scripture with the teachers in the Jewish temple? How about the Jesus who hung around prostitutes, thieves, and debt collectors? Or the wimpy Jesus who hung around women all day?

Many probably identify the teaching Jesus who took every event of the day to expound on his kingdom and way of life. Or the Jewish Jesus who kept the Holy days outlined in the Bible. Or the rebellious Jesus who broke the religious traditions of the times. Then there is the praying Jesus who would rise early in the mornings to spend time with His Father. Or the carpenter Jesus who built tables, chairs, and houses for people in the community.

Possibly some may even recognize the obedient Jesus who resisted the temptation of Satan and trusted God for His destiny. Or the suffering Jesus who took everyone’s Sin unto himself while focusing on the joy that laid before him. Maybe even the dying Jesus who was unjustly accused and sentenced to death by the government establishment.

My question for today though, is how many identify the living Jesus now sitting next to his Father in authority for heaven and earth? How many see Jesus now sitting at the table along with all our brothers and sisters? How many of us identify with the Jesus who is returning to complete the Triune Project started at the foundation of the universe?

Whichever Jesus you identify with is probably where you find him today in your life. And as the seasons change while we walk with our King, Savior, and Friend, He reveals himself to us as we need to know. Meanwhile, enjoy the journey, share the good news, and allow Him full access to make his imprint in your life story.

Should I Tell Him?

The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, Gen 18:17 ESV.

bad news 1

Would you share bad news with a friend that you know will impact her life? Or would you let her discover the event by herself.

When the Lord visited Abraham and told him the good news of a son that will be born to Sarah, he likewise shared the bad news of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. If fact, he not only informed Abraham of his intentions but began to negotiate with his friend on the terms of the outcome. In the end, the Lord completed his mission in regards to Sodom and Gomorrah, and the rest is history. Abraham’s nephew and other family members were spared, but others were destroyed.

How about you and me? Are we secure enough to inform our friends when a decision is being made that will negatively impact their life? Or do we leave them to unpleasantly discover the event? If you were in that situation, how would you like your friends to respond to you?

One principle that has proven successful for me over the years is to treat others not only like I would want to be treated, but also to treat others the way God treats me. When the Lord of heaven and earth entered Abraham’s life, He treated his earthly creation with respect as a trusted friend. How much more should we?

Why Does God Want You to Fear, Walk, Love, and Serve Him?

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, Deut. 10:12 ESV.

require 3

When God selected Israel as the nation he would work with to fulfill his promises to mankind, it came with conditions. As long as the nation served their heavenly King, the people where blessed and protected. However, whenever the nation forgot their Lord, they were discipline by the people around them.

God is no respecter of persons. How much more though does he expect from you and me since we have Biblical history and new covenant knowledge of His work written for our benefit. It is no surprise that He required the people to recognize His preeminence in return for benefiting from His faithfulness. Today we have even more of His promises waiting to be fulfilled.

Why would a God command his creation to love him? Is He on an ego trip? Does he feed off the power to control us? Or could it be possible he knows what is best for us?

Could it be that we are wired to have the Triune God the central core our being? Could it be that when the Triune God is the central core of our life, we begin to recognize reality as it can be? Ever notice, when you and I are committed into a deep relationship with the Triune God we experience the fullest potential of what it means to be human? Maybe all his ways are for our benefit and not his?

In every relationship trust is the bridge that brings people together. How does one build trust with the Triune God? Isn’t it when we follow his ways? Isn’t it in our darkest moments when we need a miracle that God reveals himself through the favorite circumstances that seem to work out without any manipulation on our part? Over time don’t we receive answer prayers, favorite blessings, and joys impossible to measure? Where do they all come from?

Yes, God knows we were created to have a meaningful relationship with Him. It takes a while for us to realize the same. But when one does, look out! Your world will never be the same.
