The Imaginary God

John 17:3 NASB

This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

There was a game show back in the 1960s called “To Tell the Truth”. A panel of four known celebrities would try to identify by questioning which one of the three contestants the real person was. The other two imposters could lie, act, and do whatever to confuse the panelists but the real character had to always tell the truth.

In many ways our search for the real God is like that game show. Growing up we read or hear stories about God but struggle with identifying who the real One is. Over time, some of us may even become so delusional with Him, we quit trying and join the agnostic team. Yet through diligence and patience, we slowly discover more about the real God as we pursue Him (James 4:8).

For many of us there is a battle in our minds trying to figure out this God. Depending on our upbringing, most of us as adults will have to relearn and rethink and repent of our former image of God. When we are confronted with the Triune God – Father, Son, Spirit – compared to the lone ranger god, our minds typically explode from the excess thought patterns. Most of us have not exercised our minds to handle such an inflow of information.

But God has made it easy for us to recognize Him. You come to know Him not only through creation, but in the person of Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:15). When we study the life of Jesus, accept His teachings, and follow Him, we come to know what He stated in John 14:20-23. You will experience life with the real God.

The same God that Jesus called Father is the same God you can come to know. The same Holy Spirit that Jesus called the Comforter, is the same Spirit you can come to know. And the same Jesus, who Father God stated He was well-pleased with (Matt. 3:17), is the same Jesus you can come to know.

Don’t settle for an illusion. Don’t take the words from others. But instead do your own homework. Seek out the one true Triune God who Jesus made known throughout His ministry. Your life will never be the same again.

Living Faith

James 2:26

For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

living1

What is faith?

Faith is obedient action with trustful confidence in God’s character. It is the confident assurance that God is always working out the best solution for you and others.

Any problem with Faith is typically tied to our ignorance of God. We believe what others have told us about God rather than discovering Him ourselves. We typically project our dysfunctional souls toward God, rather than believe Him and His Word.

We don’t realize where we actually stand in His eyes. If we did, we would humbly and respectfully place all our being onto Him without concern with the outcome.

What is not faith?

Faith is not the inner belief of an outward expectation. Rather it is knowing Him with no concern with the results.

Faith is not the cause of your salvation; rather it is the umbilical cord which connects you with the living Source of Life.

Faith is also not the anecdote of your situation. God is. Faith is simply your worldview of God’s presence in the world and your role in His kingdom.

A living Faith is not necessary about moving mountains but more about healing your soul while serving others.

Through this graceful act of redemption and sanctification, you are being morphed into the image of Jesus Christ. A byproduct of this living faith is a more active and expressive fire within the deepest, inner workings of your soul toward others. It is a life not of empty motions but actions covered with inner joy. This outer behavior is a byproduct of the inner construct of a new creation. The work is being conducted by the Holy Spirit with your yielding cooperation.

This living faith is active, confident, and obedient to the Word and Spirit of God.  It is built on God’s viewpoint and not ours. The faith we trust in is not from us but is Christ’s own faith. Since God’s purpose for your life is a new creation according to His design, it involves His Spirit developing His character, eternal values, and divine love in you with all you speak, think, and do.

If this faith is not alive in you yet, pray and ask your heavenly Father to open your eyes to know Him better.  Pursue Him with all your heart. In the process, over time, Christ’s faith will become more perceptive and active in your assigned world. You will come to know Him and the workings of real, living faith. His faith will become your faith.

Enjoy Life in God’s Presence

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 NASB

Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. For he will not often consider the years of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the gladness of his heart.

presence1

Ever notice when you find yourself involved in an enjoyable project, time seems to move quicker. Whether you find yourself playing a video game, or watching a fast action, intense movie, you are surprisingly astonished of how quickly the time past by.

If you are blessed with an occupation that exercises your gifts, values, and passion, the eight-hour day flies by and rather than being exhausted at the end of the day, you feel refresh and can’t wait for tomorrow to start the work again. These activities are God’s gift to you.

As the writer of Ecclesiastes states, whether you are a believer or not, God has given people the gift of enjoyment. In fact, in our everyday life, He even includes our job. The sad outcome though is many people turn their work into their savior and lose out on all of God’s blessings. This is why one needs to find enjoy with God’s creation plus always act and behave living in God’s presence.

The joy of living life in God’s presence is waking tomorrow without any regrets or penalties. There is great freedom and liberty when one learns to enjoy the natural everyday gifts God has bestowed upon us while allowing Him to share His life with us and us with Him.

When life passes you by quickly and the next thing you know you are in the final season of your time on earth, you can thank God for occupying your heart with joy in all your work, play, and relationships. It’s a nice place to be.
