Evil. Suffering. Death.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

evil suffering death

Modern technology and science are amazing. In my short lifetime, I have witnessed the advent of the computer, smart phone, and internet. I have seen medical breakthroughs; spaceships to the moon and beyond; and pictures of galaxies millions of miles from earth. The knowledge and pace of new inventions just keep on growing.

Yet I have also seen the austerities of evil between people and the unfruitful suffering of helpless parents and children. Like those who have gone before us, I have also experienced the brevity of life. Bodily death awaits us all.

As a people, we are taught the solution for all our problems are through science or a better form of government, or more education. Yet evil, suffering, and eventually death continues to freely express themselves throughout our neighborhoods as each of these areas grow.

There are those who want a one-world ruling government but can’t agree on the form of government. Would it be a democracy or socialist or communistic?  What would the prevailing religion be – Christianity, Muslim, Judaism, Hindu, etc.? Which language would prevail?

Then there are those, like myself, who realize the solution lies with Jesus Christ. But most people poo-poo the solution. What can a man who lived 2000 years ago provide a practical solution today they ask? Christianity has been around for 2,000 years and what has it produced? Religion is the superstition of the people many world leaders have claimed. What makes Jesus Christ different?

Imagine if Jesus Christ was properly taught and lived-out in the classroom today in every country? They would come to realize who He truly was, is, and will be. They would recognize his kingship and domain. His family connection with God the Father and Holy Spirit. The rule of love and justice and mercy would prevail. Instead of serving one’s desires, one would learn to love Father God that Jesus introduced us too. The culture would seek solutions to live life to the fullest without causing damage to the minds and souls of their inhabitants. Business would focus on providing services and products worthy of the monetary investment without causing harm to the environment.

Every person would fully understand their purpose for life and how they can best serve others in the process. Nations would help nations to grow and prosper. Everyone would acknowledge Jesus as King; the earth his domain; and we his subjects. His decrees built from a position of love and truth would prevail. Lies, deceit, and murder would be banished along with the chief instigator – Satan.

What we have here is God’s solution to our temporarily problem of evil, suffering, and death. Jesus Christ is returning. And with him is the full establishment of his Kingdom. This is what I look forward too. When mankind and the divine walk hand-in-hand and fully express life together in a world where everyone flourishes and lives in peace and harmony.

Meanwhile today we are blessed to create small heavenly colonies where we now have a foretaste of the world tomorrow promised by our God; and privileged to witness those around us what life with God is all about. There is a time for every purpose under heaven…and yes even one day evil, suffering, and death will be no more.

The Resurrection

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,…” 1 Peter 1:3

resurrection 22

What are the three “R’s” that came from Christ’s resurrection?

The first “R” is Reconciliation (Col. 1:19-20). Humanity may have divorced God when Adam & Eve rebelled against Him, but He initiated the first steps and completed the process of reconciling the divide between mankind and himself through the work of Jesus Christ.

The second “R” is Renewal (Titus 3:5). After Jesus’ resurrection, he fulfilled his promise of providing us with a Comforter and Counselor who will not only direct us into all truth, but will renew our hearts into the image of our Creator.

The third “R” is Restoration (I Peter 5:10). Throughout Israel’s history and even Jesus’ ministry, God demonstrated his purpose to restore life back to his original intent. Ever notice when Israel collapsed into darkness, God pulled them back. When people came to Jesus for healing, he would restore their health and life back again. God has been and is in the restoration business.

This Easter, you may want to take time out and read chapter fifteen of Corinthians. Paul writes in greater detail what the resurrection means to us. He summarizes the meaning of Jesus’ resurrection and describes its impact into our personal lives. My suggestion is prayerfully read it asking God to open your mind and heart to capture the vision and meaning in your life today.

And yes, there is an unofficial fourth “R”. It is a Reminder that God created us to enjoy life in Him, with Him, and for Him. Happy Easter!

Is Your Jesus Dead or Alive?

RESURRECTION 5

Easter is the time that traditional Christianity comes together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We in the faith may argue whether or not He died and was buried for a full three days or three nights as He prophesied, or whether they were portions of three days and nights. We in the faith may argue among ourselves in regards to the symbolism of the bread and wine; whether the bread is actually His body or simply a reminder of His human sacrifice. We in the faith may also debate whether or not communion is an institutional doctrine of the church to be taken only in a “Church Service” or more of simply Jesus’ method to remind us at each meal (Middle-eastern culture)when we break bread and drink wine to acknowledge what Jesus did and a reminder that He shall return.

No matter the discussions and disagreements, there is one universal truth among believers: Jesus arose from the grave and lives today!

He didn’t arise and simply disappear into heaven for His sake. He is now at the right hand of God the Father; intervening for humanity before our great God. He is working through the hands and feet of His body, the universal Church, preparing a people for His return. A time where the Bible describes a one-thousand year reign where Christ’ Kingdom will be visible; a time that will prepare the way for a new heaven and a new earth to finally merge together as one with God’s throne among all people visible for all to see.

How many people do you know live their life with a living Christ rather than a dead Christ? As we live each day in faith, trusting the Spirit to lead us into a deeper relationship with the living God, isn’t that where Christ becomes more real and alive in us?  However, if we try to do it all along, thinking that Christ is dead and is not coming back, doesn’t that leave one struggling with a dead faith?  Easter is a time to reflect on what Christ did, is doing, and will be doing as He moves history toward the restoration of all things. My prayer is that all may come to know and allow Christ to express Himself freely through us all.

OUR PRAYER

life1

Holy Father, Holy Lord, and Holy Spirit – Thank you for revealing yourself through creation, the Bible, and your involvement in our life. Help me every day to listen for your words of encouragement, love, and mission. Help me to come and know you more and more each day. Help me to hang out with you more and more each day. Let your resurrection power be expressed through me and toward others so they may also experience the great life you have to share with your children. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
