Who Has the Final Say?

Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just? Gen 18:25 ESV.

say 1

Sometimes justice is blind. What may be obvious too you is a more complicated picture for the other person.

One of the realities that took a few years for me to learn, is that there are many roads that lead toward your destination. If you are like me, you typically want to take the fastest and shortest route possible. Though you are aware there are other routes that will also get you there, why would anyone want to take them? Yet servant leadership is not about manipulating people to travel down your road, but to help them decide what road will best benefit them to arrive at their destination.

So who has the final say on which road you choose?

Most people who you ask will answer they do. Since they are personally responsible for their decision, they must choose. Yet is that 100% technically correct?

When a judge makes a decision on a court case, is that the final say?
When a parent makes a decision on a child’s life, is that the final say?
When your boss gives you a poor performance review, is that the final say?

For most people the answer may be yes. For me, I have learn otherwise. If there was no God, than I would agree with you. However since there is a Father-Son-Spirit that owns everything this universe has to offer, I believe the Triune God has last say.

So when someone makes a decision that I feel is now out of my hand, where do I turn? I simply go to our Heavenly Throne Room and ask our Heavenly Dad if he may intervene with His justice on the matter. Most of the time He takes the wrong and through time builds something out of it that produces righteous fruit in the lives of others. Than other times, he intervenes immediately in ways that pleasantly surprises you and me. Only he knows what is the best solution for the time and place.

So we have come to learn to submit to authority, to others, and to Truth. The reason being they all have a Judge that they must answer too. Even when they may not know his name. But since I know him and he knows me, His justice is always served sooner or later.

Why Have You Made Me Like This?

But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Romans 9:20 ESV.

potter 2

You are one of a kind. There has not been nor will be another you. You are distinctly designed, gifted, and empowered for the work God has prepared beforehand specifically for you (Eph. 2:10).

When you compare yourself to others without the light of God, you may be easily led a strayed. Humans like to compare themselves with each other to make themselves feel more important. It is the outcome of insecurity and immaturity. Generally, the importance they place on themselves is measured by the value system of this world’s gods. This value system may have truth blended within it. However, the system is broken because the center-base is not the Creator and Sustainer of Life.

Most often this question is asked by people outside of Christ. For when a person begins to understand who Jesus is and that our identity is found IN him, than that person longs to discover how he may best serve His King. He doesn’t focus on his human condition, resources, or position in life. Instead, he learns to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit.

Through the Spirit’s leadership, one learns to walk in harmony with the God who made and sustains all things. She begins to witness miracles in their life. They watch as hearts are changed and blessings are poured upon them not because of how they fit into the world’s way of doing things, but because God abundantly cares for them.

Instead of focusing on what one doesn’t have, one’s health, one’s financial challenges, or one’s family situation, we begin to focus on the Triune God’s work. We pray and seek His will, His purpose, and His season. We discover a life of adventure and bliss. Not as the world pursues it, but as God designed it to be.

You were created for more than what your dreams, desires, and ambitions will eventually realize.  You were born to be reborn into the inner house of the Family of God. Today we learn through our daily routines how and what that means. Tomorrow we will take our training and expand our role into the universe. Yes, God knows why He made you, you. Are you ready to find out what that is?  I dare you.

Why Do We Argue and Fight?

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? James 4:1

fight 2

Why do we quarrel? Why do we fight one another? Not only does James raise the question, he also answers it. He goes right to the heart of the matter.

Most of the time the problem isn’t with the other person, it is with us. As James writes, because we strongly desire something which we do not have, we are willing to murder someone for it. Maybe not physically, but like Jesus said, even if we hate someone, we have committed murder in our hearts.

Or if there is something we covet and believe we deserve, but are having difficulty in obtaining it, what do we do?  Don’t we end up quarreling and fighting over it. We may even steal it.

Even when we pray and ask God for what we desire, why do we become angry with Him because He doesn’t grant us our desire? Over time we learn that He knows what is best for us. As we learn over time, trust takes time to build between two parties. And God knows what it will take to build a stronger relationship between Him and you. Another reason James gives  why God may not grant us the matter is because we want to spend it on our passions. Again, God doesn’t want us to behave like the ungodly but to learn how God lives.

Generally speaking, James is saying our heart is not in agreement with God’s. We allow pride to lead rather than humility. We are double-minded. Our hearts and head and hands are not focused on building our relationship with our heavenly Father. Instead we seek to gratify our inner desires rather than focus on the good for others. So what is James’ recommendation?

To draw near and submit ourselves to God.

When our focus becomes aligned with God’s Will, Purpose, and Plans, we are not so easily tempted by the world’s passions. Instead we seek to strengthen the relationship with the God of the Universe – The Father-Son-Spirit that owns everything and has created everything so Jesus Christ may lead the family Business for now and into eternity. Through the Holy Spirit that opens our eyes to see the ways of God, we learn how we may best serve others, God, and ourselves without our passions controlling us. Eventually, God even blesses us with our old desires when they no longer are more important than the relationship we have with HIM.
