Common Link

Colossians 1:26-27

…the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (ESV)

Our Common Link

Jesus Christ is the common link that eventually will unite all mankind.

Today there is division between those who acknowledge HIM and those who distain HIM. There are those who have now accepted HIS authority in their life and have come to realize HE is alive and living in Spirit with them. On the other hand, there are those who look upon the man as a religious do-gooder without any relevancy or practicality for current world affairs. And therefore, refrain from living under HIS domain.

More has been written and discussed about Jesus Christ than any other person who has every lived. His impact on the people of HIS day resulted over time in a drastic cultural change in human affairs. Those who have come to believe in this sole person’s claim have witnessed a change with their own heart, mind, and soul. When they meet others who have likewise experience similar transformation, they rejoice and acknowledge their King and God.

To become a follower of Christ is sacrilegious in countries whose nationalistic faith is atheistic or political. Yet many choose to follow HIM at the price of their own life. What makes HIM so attractive?

He never wrote a book, held public office, led an army, nor built a historic empire. Yet HE is held in esteem and acknowledged to be a King and Savior of mankind! Kings of nations, presidents, and leaders of vastly different institutions and organizations have acknowledged HIS influence and leadership in their lives.

His teachings have led to the flourishment and development of the western world in areas of human rights, education, and governmental structure. His ways have also led to the building up of social structures, hospitals, and family roles within society.

Historians have taught the evilness of what happens when people disregard HIM and pursue their carnal desires at the destructive expense of the masses. More people have died fighting to destroy HIS teachings rather than live out HIS Kingdom way. People always want the benefit of HIS ways without answerable to HIM. They can’t acknowledge that the source of everything good is because of HIM.

Yet one day that will all change, and humanity will finally witness how ONE person will operate a Kingdom where everyone will have the opportunity to flourish in freedom and find fulfillment serving each other. I long for HIS Kingdom to fully function on earth as in heaven. But till then, I rejoice that there are little colonies throughout this planet where HIS Kingdom is active. Wherever you and I stand, we have the honor and privilege of sharing God’s way of life with others. At home, among friends, and in the marketplace, we are fortunate to share HIS Good News with others; and at times we may even use words.

When you are rooted in Jesus Christ, you stand on solid ground. You are linked with HIS Father and Spirit and a host of other angelical beings. And you are connected and belong with other saints who likewise share in the life of the God-Man who makes all these things possible. One day everyone alive will also personally come to know HIM – for HE is our common link.

Your Cross. Your Responsibility.

Luke 9:23

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

What is your cross?

As this Scripture indicates, to follow Jesus requires each of us to place our wants and desires secondary to Him, and accept daily our responsibility toward God and others.

But this still begs the question, what is your cross to carry?

Jesus’ daily cross was to fulfill the mission he accepted from the foundation of the world from His God. His daily exercise to cross the “T” and dot the “i” in a godly manner involved working in the carpentry shop before his public ministry and then the pronouncement and teaching of His Kingdom before others in the last three years of his earthly venture. He carried the responsibility of moving events toward his trial, execution, and resurrection. He laid the foundation for a Church to outlast history. His incarnate actions were done as a substitute for you and I. He reflected God’s intentions in all his actions and words. He learned obedience through his daily struggles. He experienced pain and suffering as a human. He knew the hatred others had for him yet lived each day resting in His Father’s Will and bore the responsibility of teaching and serving others in God’s name.

That was His cross. But what is the cross you carry?

As we mature in life, we begin to accept greater and greater responsibility. Some people seek it out which is normal in our earlier adult days. Others have responsibility thrusts upon them by others and either meet the call or succumb to its weight. Then others accept commitments toward a personal goal or relationship and hold themselves personally accountable toward fulfilling that decision.

Your cross in the eyes of others may be a minor stone you have to carry each day. But to you the perception is the other way around. Your cross is a large boulder which requires all your strength and focus each day while your friend’s cross is a pocket stone. And they likewise see it the other way around.

Your cross may be the burden of a broken relationship; financial hardship caused by outside forces outside your control; or maybe the outcome of back to back poor decisions which has left you beaten, broken, and busted. Yet, these are the cards you have and Jesus says accept your situation and take the responsibility to fix it by following him toward your new future. You may be a single mom working three jobs and raising two children. You may be a widower in poor health caring for someone else who likewise is struggling through life. Or you may be an entrepreneur putting yourself together again after failing in your third business venture.

Your cross may be a defective health issue that has you struggling each day simply to get around. Or maybe even the threat of your life for leaving your previous religion to follow Jesus. And yet others, it may simply be to marry the person who birth your child out of wedlock and give them a father and home-life as a foundation for a successful life.

As a Christ follower, it is not about you. Each of us has a boulder to push, a mountain to climb, or an ocean to cross. To follow Jesus requires us to accept the responsibility of completing the race before us with all its obstacles. Not as a victim nor an evil rabble rouser, but as a child of the living God. As we accept personal responsibility for our actions, and trust Jesus to lead us via the Holy Spirit, we will find meaning and purpose with our life. In fact, you will find yourself growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ unto maturity as a believer and finisher of your faith.

The Cross

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” I Corinthians 1:18 ESV

cross 3

What happened on the Cross the day Jesus died?

The sacrificial system stopped.

The broken relationship between God and humanity was restored.

The guilt and shame of the fall was replaced with freedom and liberty.

The war of good over evil was won.

The human race was redeemed from Satan.

Just a simple reminder for those of us that sometimes forget or take for granted the impact of Jesus’ life & sacrifice.
